Member of the MonthJuly 2008John & Honey Harris This 2005 C6 Corvette is my 5th; the 1st one being purchased when I got out of the Marines in 1969, when I became the proud owner of a 1958 white beauty. As most of you are aware, I spent almost two years in Vietnam with the U.S. Marines in 1966 & 67, and Honey and I were fortunate enough to return to (a much friendlier) Vietnam this past September. This was a very rewarding, informative, and pleasurable trip for both of us, and certainly helped provide a great sense of closure to me personally. My 2nd Corvette was a beautiful red 1961, and my 3rd was also red, and was an “outstanding” 1962, with factory F.I., both tops and was in really excellent condition. I lost my head in 1974, and decided to get married to a girl I had only known a short time, and after the wedding she decided that a red Corvette was not appropriate for a “married man” and convinced me to trade the Vette in on a shiny new 1074 Monte Carlo; I received a whopping $3200.00 trade in for my 1963 Vette... The marriage ended 2 months later. My 4th Corvette was a 1972, Coupe, and was with Honey and I for several years then sold to a friend in AZ, but re-purchased from the same friend 2 years later. While living in San Diego, we belonged to the San Diego Corvette Club and became involve in many of the clubs functions activities and meetings. Our most recent MAG Red Corvette; our 2005 was acquired a over a year ago, and is considered “mild custom” with some of the additions we have added to the car. Honey and I both grew up in Southern California, and moved to Houston, (Missouri City) a little over 4 years ago due to Honey’s promotion and relocation to this area. We have two children still living in CA, a son who is a California Highway Patrol officer, and a daughter who is married to a Captain with the San Bernardino City fire department. We have 3 grandchildren; 1 grandson with our son and 2 granddaughters with our daughter. I am currently retired from sales and marketing with a large construction equipment manufacturer, and Honey is still active with her role as region vice president for a major construction equipment rental company. We love being involved with the COCH and truly enjoy the many wonderful people we have come to meet and participate with in many of the club’s activities, (when not traveling to see the grandkids, etc.).
